Letters to Evan

Dear Evan,

You’re here (click for pics)! We’ve been awaiting your arrival for quite some time now. At 40 weeks & 1 day, we decided to get induced. And thank goodness we did because you were a big guy! You were born at Hoag Hospital at 9:10pm on February 11, 2009. You weighed 9lbs, 2oz. & were 22 inches long.

After getting discharged from the hospital, your Grandma Robin stayed with us at our house for 3 nights. It was all hands on deck & everyone worked around the clock shifts. We hovered over you to tend to your every need. Day 4, your grandpa Denis arrived home from a business trip. We promptly packed up 2 carloads of necessities & moved into your grandparent’s house in Newport Coast. It’s amazing how much stuff one lil guy needs! Having the support of your grandparents has been wonderful. They love you so much & have been so so helpful to your mom & dad, as we figure out the 1st few weeks of parenthood.

Our dog, Ginger (aka “The Ginge”) loves to hover over you too. She wants to sniff everything of yours … your bouncy seat, your blankets, even your head! She’s awfully curious about you, but she knows not to get too close.

We are starting to see bits of your personality come out. You make the sweetest little bird face when you’re hungry. You stretch out your skinny little neck & it is the cutest thing ever. Speaking of cutest things ever, who knew toots could sound so cute?! Especially when you smile as you toot! Maybe it’s something only a mom & dad could love, but it’s the sweetest sound to us!

You also had your 1st doctor’s visit last week. Dr. Tse is happy that you’re only 2oz. down from your birth weight. You have a tiny bit of jaundice but it looks like its already starting to clear up. We have an appointment next week to check your weight & make sure the jaundice is clearing up.

We’re limiting the visitors these 1st few weeks. We want to enjoy this time as a family. Soon enough you’ll be meeting all the peeps that have been awaiting your arrival. Right now, we want to soak it all in. Your dad loves to talk to you about all of the places we are going to go. He also loves to teach you new things. It’s never too early! He’s been naming off the state capitals, different baseball teams & racecar drivers. It’s beautiful to watch my favorite guys bonding together.

Mom is off to take a nap while dad watches you. And then it’s time for her to work the ‘night shift’!

Love,
Mom & Dad
